Providing students with practical knowledge in the field of: principles of selection of engineering materials for different products, taking into account multi-criteria optimization; use current standards to assess the grade of material used and find equivalent or substitute material; proceedings concerning the assessment of the causes of damage of machinery parts and equipment using various types of tests; relationships between the manufacturing process, structure, properties and application of engineering materials. Four groups of engineering materials will be analysed: metals, polymers, composites and ceramics. The general principles of engineering designing will be presented.
