Heat Treatment of Metals IE-SI7O>HToM

The course aims is to introduce students to the basic issues related to heat treatment of alloys: iron-carbon, aluminum and titanium. On the example of the Fe–C equilibrium system (carbon steel, cast steel, high-quality cast iron), the classification of heat treatment and the transformations occurring in steel during thermal operations and treatments will be presented. During the course the heat treatment technology along with the impact of the furnace atmosphere on metallic materials will be analyzed. Also the surface treatments as well as thermo-plastic and thermo-chemical treatments will be presented. Alloyed steels and non-ferrous metal alloys used in mechanical engineering will also be discussed.
